Behind the wheel and lens of the Mont Blanc truck photo

We couldn’t do what we do without our incredible driving team. But some drivers don’t consider their day-to-day activities as work, but instead they’re on the longest-road trip ever. Josh Morris, who started working with us back in 2015 gives his thoughts on the job, and how he captured this incredible photo of Mont Blanc while on his travels.

Having joined to work originally on UK jobs, a position became available on the international side in 2017 where he quickly took upon the role to become part of the Monex International team, and he hasn’t looked back since.

Put simply, I get paid to travel and explore Europe which people normally have to pay to do; I've always said some call it work but I call it a road trip. I’ve just started driving my new Truck which is a Left-Hand Drive Euro 6 Scania 590s V8, which is an absolute dream to pilot. My old truck was a Euro 6 Volvo 460 which was a lovely truck, and you won't go far wrong driving a Swedish Brand Truck, in my opinion it’s the best in the business.

The trailers we pull over Europe vary from tautliners, to flat beds to fridges, whatever the customer needs, we’ll get it delivered for them.

But what makes Monex a great place to work?

First off, you’re more than just a number, as big as the company is, you’re like part of the family, and over the years the company has done a lot for me personally which I won't be able to thank enough and be forever grateful to.

From the bosses to the office staff to the warehouse staff to the mechanics, all a cracking bunch of people, with a great sense of humour, just a great team, which makes the job more enjoyable.

The other incredible aspect of the job is the kit that Monex provides for their drivers to work with on the road, it really is top of the range and up there with the best.

Behind the lens of the famous Mont Blanc photo

I was on a groupage run, making my way down to Italy delivering Mcc which is multi colour labels, for one of our customers out of Cwmbran in south Wales. The photo itself was taken at Piazzale Funivie Val Veny, 11013 Entreves AO, Italy, just outside the Mont Blanc Road tunnel on the Italian side ski car park. As it was out of season, and the car park was empty, I opted to set up camp there for the night; a night in paradise with a view in every direction you turn.

Whenever I travel to Italy 99.9 % of time I'll opt to travel through the Mont Blanc as it completes the road trip, like putting the icing on the cake. All year round the views are phenomenal whilst coming out of the Mont Blanc travelling down through the Aosta Valley. It’s an absolutely stunning drive and I can honestly say I'll never ever get bored of that drive, it's up there with the best.

My favourite countries to travel to have got to be Spain and Portugal as I am all for chasing that sea, sand, and sun on the open road, and working for Monex I have had the joy of already travelling through France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, with hopefully more to follow in the future.

Advice for new drivers

For anyone wanting to opt for the international adventure, the world really is your oyster. You can either choose to travel the M4 every day of your life to the extent where you know every pothole on the motorway, or you can choose the open road and travel the south coast of Spain whilst getting paid for it, it's a no brainer to me! Basically, the job is what you make of it, and if you play your cards right, it becomes a cracking life on the open road.
